Wireless has many benefits.
Minimised cabling means installation times can be reduced massively. System design is no longer governed by the need to get copper from device to device. The cost of office churn is reduced as rewiring of sensing and control points is eradicated.
Building services
Fire management
Intruder alarms
Access control
Lighting control
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning
Each of the above services are dominated by habitual wired systems. The industry has recognised the need to modernise its' installation practices and eradicating the need for interconnecting control cable is desirable.
Public lighting
Street lighting can benefit from the remote monitoring and control of lamp control gear.
A wireless system deployed to monitor the state of the lamps can bring substantial costs savings as well as enhancement to public safety and comfort. When a lamp fails the monitoring system will instantly flag this back at the maintenance co-ordinators desk. It does not fall to a member of the public or indeed a costly man-in-a-van to notify of the outage. A planned maintenance can be invoked rather than a hasty reaction.
Remote activation of the lamp would be possible allowing for very precise control and the consequent energy savings.
